Born on March 16, 1941, in Ashland, Kentucky, he began his career in music before transitioning to television, where his charisma and sharp wit made him a household name. His time hosting Wheel of Fortune in 1975 launched a long and successful career, followed by other hit shows like Love Connection (1983–1994), where his humorous commentary became iconic, and Scrabble (1984–1990), based on the classic word game.

Known for his quick wit and engaging presence, he became a staple of the game show genre, beloved by fans for his approachable demeanor and entertaining style. Woolery also enjoyed a successful music career, first as a member of The Avant-Garde, a pop trio that scored a hit with “Naturally Stoned” in 1968. He later pursued a solo career in country music.
