A companion remains a companion even when retirement comes, and the companion is a dog. Sergeant adopts retired search dog he worked with for years in the armed forces

Companionship is companionship even when retirement comes, and that companion is a dog.

When he learned that his former partner was retiring, the sergeant was quick to adopt the dog that had followed him through years of service in the military.

Mike Alcala was a member of the US Air Force General Staff and, along with John, the military canine agent, they were together on missions in Hawaii, before a turning point in life separated them.

They experienced many events during their service. They conducted patrols on the base and in the local Hawaiian community and took part in international campaigns.

Mike and John formed a close bond after all these missions.

However, Mike was transferred to another field and had to leave John. After 3 years together, the breakup was difficult. As it was time to leave, the man vowed to come back and get the dog. And he kept his word.

When John was retired after 8 years of service, his old companion came to pick him up. It was a very touching reunion of two friends.

Before the flight to Texas, John was honored at a special ceremony held in his honor.

John loved his new home.

“After years of separation, my canine friend is back home. It’s absolutely amazing,” said Mike Alcala.
