Adopting and caring for a pet requires dedication and vigilance, which is why some animals end up abandoned. Such is the fate of Lilo, a dog rescued from an animal shelter in Tennessee, USA, with a touching note.
The McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga announced on its Facebook profile that Lilo had been spotted by a kind passerby. She was walking, on a leash, with a touching note about her.
“I am Lilo. Please take care of me. My homeless mom, who already has two children, can no longer feed me. I really care about her, and I am a great dog who loves to be given love. Please treat me well,” the note reads.
Faced with this reality, the shelter responded by sending a message to the dog’s owner, reminding him that it offers solutions such as food distribution, vaccinations and microchipping for dogs and cats, regardless of the circumstances.
“We regret that you have to make this difficult decision to part with her,” the shelter wrote on social media.
“We know that it is difficult today to keep pets and their owners together. We hope that families do not part with their pets.”
Luckily, the story has a happy ending: Lilo’s owner came to pick her up. The shelter shared this good news, while remaining discreet about the details of their encounters.
