A giant 16lb baby made headlines in 1983, but wait until you see it today

If a baby weighs between four and five pounds at birth, doctors call it a large fetus. However, the size of the child is not taken into account. Large babies also excel in terms of size, which can reach 22 inches at the time of birth. Statistically, large babies account for 5 to 10 percent of all pregnancies.

In 1983, when 24-year-old Patricia Clarke became pregnant, she had more than a feeling that her unborn child would be large. She knew there were large families in her family because she had already given birth to one herself. However, the size of the baby she was carrying was quite unexpected.

Kevin Robert Clark was born to Patricia and weighed over 16 pounds – a huge baby. He was the largest baby ever born at Community Memorial Hospital, and perhaps in all of New Jersey at the time. His parents were relieved to see that Kevin was healthy, even though he didn’t fit into a standard crib and his baby clothes were too small.

As expected, his stature was immediately apparent. His national fame grew quickly after appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and “Good Morning America,” among others. Unfortunately, Kevin wasn’t done being in the spotlight yet. According to the New York Post, by the time he was 12, he was already 5 feet 7 inches tall. By the time he entered college, he was already 6 feet 1 inches tall. He continued to grow after that. “There’s not a day that goes by that someone doesn’t ask me how tall I am,” Kevin told the Post.
